Lawrence Barnes, 68, of Joppa struck the trooper conducting a commercial vehicle inspection on the shoulder of Route 152/Mountain Road, and failed to stop for the inspection itself in Joppa, state police said.

The trooper was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where she is said to be receiving treatment for her injuries.

Another trooper, who was assisting in the inspection, located Barnes about a half mile away. Barnes was arrested and has since been charged with failure to remain at the scene of an injury crash.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
